Sierra Mobile Home Park afterschool program

This Afterschool program focuses on school-aged children who live in the Sierra Mobile Home Park community.  It runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 3:15-5:00pm and Wednesdays from 1:30-3:30pm.  The program focuses on homework completion, tutoring, mentoring and social/emotional well-being.  The program is held at the Gloria Aldama Learning Center 4747 N. Cornelia sp. 75.  Students have a nutritious snack prior to starting their homework and projects.  An onsite computer center enhances learning and is available for students who have school projects to complete.
Program runs through May 2019 closed during school holidays.
Volunteer

How can you help:

1.  Volunteer.  These children need your help in reading, writing, math and general studies as well as the positive influence and structure you can bring.  Most come from homes where English is a second language, and not easily grasped.  It can be one day a week or every day, whatever you can do- but your time will make a huge positive impact in their lives.  Self confidence and grades will improve, as well as their outlook for the future.
2.  Donate.  A monetary donation, school supplies (general and for projects), computer paper, ink for the printer, project boards, etc.  Every bit is used throughout the school year and craft supplies for our summer enrichment programs enhance learning.  Even small 'treasures' for the treasure box used as incentives for good grades and positive behavior would be welcome.
3.  Sponsor a field trip.  In the summer we would like to take our children who have completed their summer session packets on a reward trip.  Most of these children never go on family trips and have not experienced the vast learning opportunities that we have in both the valley and California.  Some past trips have included the Circus, Grizzlies baseball, Roger Rodka's Good Company Players, even Disneyland.
4.  Sponsor a child.  The children in our programs often find themselves in need of a warm coat, or a new pair of shoes that fit properly.  At the beginning of school, many of our students find themselves without the necessary school supplies or a usable backpack- necessary tools to succeed in education.  Your contribution would go a long way to helping.
